Milan Expand Their Search for a New Sporting Director

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has returned from a meeting with owner Gerry Cardinale with the mandate to find a new sporting director. It’s no longer a two-man race between Fabio Paratici and Igli Tare. The official will also meet with Thiago Scuro and Markus Krosche, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

More candidates, for instance, Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico, could pop up during the process. It will take longer than previously expected. The governor and consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic held the first round of talks, but the top exec has gained a central role in the matter. Andrea Berta would have likely been the choice hadn’t he committed to going to Arsenal.

The two new options both spent time under the Red Bull umbrella and then branched out on their own. Thiago Scuro started at Bragantino and has been at Monaco since 2023. He helped his side return to the Champions League by bringing in a few young players.

Instead, Krosche was appointed by Eintracht Frankfurt in 2003 after working at Leipzig. They won the Europa League in his first year. The Rossoneri could wait until the summer to finalize the hiring if they pick somebody under contract.

Our Take on the Milan Front Office

It’s not too dramatic, but it looks like the divide between the RedBird Capital and the Elliot part of the hierarchy is still there. They have never truly clarified the lingering involvement and influence of their previous owner. Still, it would have been unusual had such an influential choice gone over the CEO’s head. He pretty much would have had to resign if that happened. The foreign candidates are more alluring than their previous ones.
