Milan’s poor start to the 2024-25 campaign will add to the pressure of halting an appalling six-game losing streak in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday and stopping their foes from reaching a humiliating record.

The Rossoneri last won a Derby in September 2022 under Stefano Pioli, in a game that also fell on Serie A matchday 5. The then-reigning champions defeated the Nerazzurri 3-2, with Rafa Leao’s brace and a goal from Olivier Giroud.

The Diavolo have since lost all six following head-to-heads played across three competitions. This miserable streak includes two defeats in the 2023 Champions League semifinals, a 5-1 thrashing in September 2023, and their latest 2-1 loss on 22 April 2024, the day that saw Inter crowned Italian champions with five games to spare.

Milan want to stop Inter from reaching historic record in Derby della Madonnina

This series of games allowed Inter to equal Milan’s longest streak of victories in a Derby della Madonnina. Still, the Nerazzurri are now presented with the chance to extend it to seven consecutive wins, which would mark a new record in the fixture’s history.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter are still unbeaten this season after drawing at Manchester City on their Champions League debut, although they dropped points in two of the four Serie A fixtures played so far, sharing the spoils against Genoa and Monza.

On the other hand, Milan have just won one match from their first five across Serie A and Champions League, with their latest 3-1 defeat against Liverpool piling further pressure on their new manager, Paulo Fonseca, whose job is reportedly already on the line.

Extending their miserable start to the season by letting Inter win seven straight derbies for the first time in history would certainly be felt as a further humiliation for the Rossoneri fans. It would also prove fatal for Fonseca, as the club is already considering his potential replacements.
