Milan are accelerating for Niclas Fullkrug and ironing out the details of the deal with West Ham. His team informed him that he’d be on the move in January. He’s given his priority to the Rossoneri, Matteo Moretto reports (via SOSFanta).
The two sides are discussing a loan. The Serie A giants want the player only for the next six months, while the English side would prefer an obligation to buy. The parties could meet in the middle and agree to an option, but he’ll have to earn his permanence.
Milan zeroed in on Fullkrug after Santiago Gimenez had surgery to address his ankle injury. He’ll be out for six to eight weeks. The West Ham outcast is the easiest to sign among their targets. Some financial aspects need to be settled, but the white smoke is nigh.
The veteran moved to London for €27M in 2024 after a successful run in the Bundesliga, but injuries have derailed his stint. He last scored in April. He earned a spot in the 2022 World Cup-winning squad with his performances at Werder Bremen and also spent a campaign at Borussia Dortmund.
He’s a low-hanging fruit and a better fit than Gimenez stylistically, but it’s mostly a lateral move. The injury of the Mexican international complicates his exit, or at least delays it, so they aren’t in a great spot, as they might have to keep him. If the signing goes through, Massimiliano Allegri won’t have to ponder a permanent tactical switch, as Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao will remain the unquestioned starters in a two-man frontline, which he probably doesn’t mind.
