Despite splashing out north of €30 million to sign Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord in January, Milan will return to the market for a new striker this summer. According to Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo, the Italian giants have set their sights on two young strikers.
Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca sits at the top of the list. However, Milan would have to beat fierce rivals Inter to the 24-year-old’s signature. Though Kosta Runjaic’s men head toward another mid-table finish in Serie A, Lucca has been outstanding, netting 12 times in Italy’s top flight.
The towering center-forward has earned high acclaim for his aerial prowess and lethal finishing, with Milan and Inter set to go head-to-head for his services. In addition to Lucca, Mainz star Jonathan Burkardt has landed on Rossoneri’s shortlist.
Burkardt has been the cornerstone of Mainz’s incredible top-four push in the Bundesliga with 16 league goals. Yet, his price tag could be prohibitive for the 19-time Italian champions, even though they’re reportedly ready to part with another €30m to reinforce their attacking options.
Yet, before pursuing a new goal-getter, Milan must first address several pressing matters. For starters, they must appoint a new sporting director. Furthermore, the club will need to sort out Tammy Abraham’s future at the San Siro after signing him on loan from Roma last summer.
Luka Jovic should make way, with Milan reluctant to extend his expiring contract. Nonetheless, Gimenez should be a first-choice striker in 2025/26 despite his early struggles in Serie A.
