Milan are the club that have flown the Serie A flag the highest in the Champions League, having won the competition 7 times. Although the last couple of decades haven’t been the most successful, they have still been a part of the competition for four years on a row now. Just participating in the Champions League guarantees a sum of €45-50m, which Milan look set to miss out on, given how their season has gone. While missing out on it won’t be catastrophic financially, it would mean that the Rossoneri would require a big sale in order to properly participate in the transfer window. The three candidates for this sale are Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez as per Mark Guidi (via Gazetta.it). These are the three biggest players at the club and earn the highest salary. The two Frenchman haven’t been at their best this season and their contracts expire next summer. Leao’s case is slightly different. While he is inconsistent, on his day, he is still Milan’s biggest match winner. To make it worse, his relationship with the fans also seem to have worsened. Leao is the club’s top earner and his contract keeps him there till 2028. It is also likely that if Milan miss out on the Champions League, the Portuguese winger demands a move on his own accord.
