Milan Turned Down Large Offer for Summer Addition

Milan had the chance to sell Strahinja Pavlovic for a big chunk of change in January, but, while some negotiations collapsed because of the will of the player, the front office eventually decided he should stay too, Calciomercato reports.

Fenerbahce moved for the Serb defender at the beginning of January. They offered a loan with an option to buy that would have exceeded the fee paid by Milan to Red Bull Salzburg. The center-back wasn’t too enthusiastic about the move, so the suitors put pedal the medal to sign Milan Skriniar instead.

In the final days of the window, Crystal Palace proposed €28M for Pavlovic, which would have allowed Milan to record an unexpected ‘plusvalenza’ after just six months. However, senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who’s a fan of the player, wasn’t on board with the plan. The same goes for coach Sergio Conceiçao.

In the end, the Eagles were rebuffed, which surprised them a little. The newcomer will have a shot at becoming a mainstay in San Siro. Instead, the Rossoneri will seek to cash in on Fikayo Tomori in the summer. He turned down Juventus and Tottenham in January but will continue to be available. Antonio Silva is gaining steam as a possible replacement.

Our Take on Milan and Pavlovic

He had done little on the pitch to deserve being shopped around, so it’s a sound outcome for him and the team. Selling him so soon wouldn’t have been a great look. Having four starting-caliber center-backs might be overkill, but you can never be too safe with today’s schedule.
