Miley's message as Academy-product Neave makes Premier League bow | OneFootball

Miley became Newcastle United's youngest Premier League debutant when, at the age of 17 years and 27 days, he entered the fray at Stamford Bridge three years ago. Since then, he's become the club's youngest Premier League scorer, youngest Champions League debutant and youngest Champions League goalscorer, and signed a new six-year contract with his boyhood club this week.

And he is backing Neave - who turns 19 on Wednesday - to follow in his footsteps in graduating from the Magpies' Little Benton Academy and making a mark in black and white.

"We didn't really play with each other much (at Academy level) because I was playing with the older age groups, but he's developed really well and he's looking really good now," Miley, who recently turned 20, told newcastleunited.com.

"He can only push on and keep trying to get lots more minutes. It's a really high level now. Every game's a big game for the club and you've just got to keep working hard and keep trying to be better every day."

Miley almost marked that debut at Chelsea with a goal - he hit the bar with a long-range strike shortly after coming on - but has already scored six times for United in 80 appearances.

Neave, an England international up to under-19 level, was part of the Newcastle squad that won the Carabao Cup last year, an unused substitute at Wembley, and made his Champions League bow against Qarabağ FK in February.

Recalling his own top flight debut, Miley said: "It feels like yesterday, to be fair, but it just goes so fast.

"But seeing Sean come on, I was buzzing for him. Hopefully he can carry on, play really well and gets lots of momentum.

"It gives you a big boost; when you make that debut, you know you're in it now. You've got to try and compete for your place and keep working hard every day. You'll get rewards if you keep doing that."
