Abdul Fatawu's goal against Fiorentina was nothing short of incredible showcasing what a weapon he can be for Marti Cifuentes
Abdul Fatawu highlights his brilliance against Fiorentina with a spectacular goal which could prove a key weapon for Marti Cifuentes' Leicester City side this campaign.
Abdul Fatawu has kicked off his pre-season with a sign of intent after a superb curling effort in Leicester City's 2-0 win against Italian giants Fiorentina at the King Power Stadium.
The tricky winger received the ball in his own half before delicately flicking the ball over Fabiano Parisi and carrying the ball all the way into the opposition box. Fatawu chopped back on his favored left-foot and whipped the ball into the far corner, beyond the reach of Martinelli in the Fiorentina goal.
The 21-year-old first showcased his abilities two seasons ago for the Foxes when in the Championship last time out. After making the move to Leicester from Sporting Lisbon, Fatawu made 40 appearances in the league and notched 19 goal contributions, making the young Ghanaian a fan favourite going into Leicester's Premier League campaign.
However, this didn't come to fruition as Fatawu missed much of last season due to a long-term knee injury, seeing him merely make 11 appearances in the Premier League.
Despite suffering adversity last season, Fatawu has kept positive with the Foxes front-man, saying yesterday that, "It feels good to return to the King Power Stadium" according to Pan-Africa Football.
With new manager Marti Cifuentes at the helm taking over from former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud Van Nistlerooy, the Spaniard has a clear style of play, urging his players to play front-footed, dominant football which he described as 'non-negotiable'.
His high-pressing style of play is likely to be a weapon that Cifuentes has in his armory that can trouble defences with the likes of the pacey attackers at his disposal.
The attacking trio of Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi, and Bilal El Khannouss is a frontline that Leicester City fans are right to be seriously excited about due to their ability to beat a man and be a threat in front of goal, making them dangerous and players to watch going into the start of the Championship season as the Foxes seek to return to the Premier League.
After their win against Fiorentina, new manager Cifuentes said: "I'm proud, and I feel happy about the performance... I saw a team with a certain identity and a clear way of playing" via the Leicester City website.
After Leicester City made the drop to tier two following their 18th-place Premier League finish last season, the Foxes seek out an immediate return to the top flight. However, due to new management, funding issues, and keen opposition, the upcoming campaign is set to be a challenge for the foxes.
If Cifuentes can foster a tight-knit group that hit the ground running, the exciting nature of the likes of Fatawu on the right-wing and Mavididi on the left-wing, will undoubtedly reignite that feel-good factor around the King Power that Leicester fans have been so used to over the past 10 years.
Fatawu and Mavididi bring proven, promotion-winning quality to Cifuentes' camp, having both led instrumental roles in Leicester's title triumph two seasons ago. They will, however, be supplemented by promising young talents such as Jeremy Monga and Will Alves, who have both been tipped for glittering careers at the King Power Stadium and will likely be handed ample opportunities to show their worth in the Championship.
