Spanish star Sergio Ramos (39) made a point of supporting Moroccan attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz after the latter's miss during the decisive penalty in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.

On his social media, the former Spanish national team captain shared a photo of Diaz, accompanied by a heartfelt message of solidarity. He emphasized that only players with great character dare to take on the responsibility of a penalty in such a crucial moment, urging the Moroccan star to keep his head up.

In his message, Ramos wrote: “Only those with the personality to take them miss., Ibrahim.”

He added: “Always keep your head high, brother. Football always offers a chance for revenge, and you've given us much more than what slipped away today. Let's go for the next one with even more strength ! Always on my team.”

In the dying minutes of the AFCON final, Morocco were awarded a penalty after a VAR review—a decision hotly contested by the "Lions of Teranga" and one that caused a temporary halt to the match.

After the restart, Diaz attempted a panenka, but Al-Ahli Jeddah goalkeeper Édouard Mendy read it perfectly, denying him and handing Senegal their second Africa Cup of Nations title.
