Mlungisi Mbunjana gives his opinion on the new Phakamani Mahlambi experience!
TS Galaxy captain Mlungisi Mbunjana has commented on the club's decision to offer a trial to unattached forward Phakamani Mahlambi.
The Rockets are currently assessing the former Mamelodi Sundowns player, who has been without a team since his 2021 stint with Chippa United in the Betway Premiership. Mahlambi's promising career, which began with his rise at Bidvest Wits in 2013, has been stalled in recent years, largely due to off-field disciplinary problems.
His professional journey includes spells at clubs like Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu FC, and Chippa United before his progress was interrupted.
Regarding the trialist, Mbunjana stated: “Mahlambi is a top player, we all know and witnessed that. I think he had a slight dip in his career, and I think it’s very generous of the coach [Adnan Beganovic] to give him a chance and try to get him to shape.”
He added: “I think you can see glimpses of the quality that he possesses, even though he’s not back to full fitness, but you can see that if this guy continues to train with us, he will be back to his best.”
The captain also expressed his hope for Mahlambi's recovery, saying: “So I hope that he becomes better and better, so that his career can continue because he is a quality player and a wonderful person as well.”
Concluding his remarks, Mbunjana shared his positive impression of Mahlambi's character, noting: “We’ve been with him for about two to three weeks now, and you can see that he’s a cool guy. I wish that he pushes through the mental and physical barrier to get back to his best.”
