Mo Salah’s Liverpool future is under scrutiny after a fiery interview following the 3-3 draw with Leeds United, and he was left out of Tuesday’s win over Inter Milan.

"Everyone makes mistakes in life, so the first thing should be does the player feels he made a mistake as well?" he told Amazon Prime, leaving the door open for an apology and a return.

Salah objected to a third straight benching, claiming relations with Arne Slot had collapsed and that he was being scapegoated. His remarks drew widespread criticism, and he did not travel to Milan.

The club have not said whether he will be reintegrated or sold in January, and it is unclear if he will apologise or seek a move. He has been called up by Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, must leave by 15 December, and could be away until the final in Rabat on 18 January.

If player and club part, Saudi Pro League sides would almost certainly make lucrative offers, while MLS interest is rumoured from San Diego FC and Chicago Fire. There are no indications of bids from other Premier League or European clubs given salary and recent form.

Should Liverpool seek a replacement, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, whose £65m clause activates in January, is seen as a leading option amid talk of Manchester City interest. Slot is under pressure after a difficult start to the title defence, which may yet be the most likely path to Salah staying.
