Mohamed-Ali Cho struck twice as Nice won 4-1 at Nantes, a result that could mark a decisive step towards Ligue 1 safety. According to L'Équipe, the 22-year-old’s first brace for the club may also prove a key moment in his Nice career.
He scored the opener and the second, putting the visitors in control at La Beaujoire in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Elye Wahi. Nice netted three times inside the first 40 minutes, their first such away league burst since 30 March 1976 at Lille, a 3-0 win.
Cho joined the Gym two years ago. Since then he had been truly decisive only twice for Nice, against Bastia, 1-0 in the Coupe de France, then with the second in a 2-0 win over OM. He scored 2 in 40 for Real Sociedad from 2022 to 2024.
Often influential in the build-up and the approach to the final third, he had too often lacked the final touch. Even so, his return of 12 goals and 11 assists in Nice colours hints at underachievement rather than a 12 M€ mistake.
This display arrived three days after a strong European outing against Go Ahead Eagles, a 3-1 win in which he set up Tiago Gouveia for the third. January tends to suit him, the attacking set-up appears to be improving under the new head coach, and Nantes might be the day his season finally clicked. For now, the system looks to be paying off and his place on the right seems secure.
