Mohamed Salah has returned to training with Egypt ahead of Friday’s World Cup round of 32 against Australia, scheduled for 20:00 in Dallas.
According to L'Équipe, the captain trained on Tuesday, taking part in part of the session as he continues to recover from a hamstring strain. His involvement raises hope he could be available.
Salah was injured in the 1-1 draw with Iran on 27 June and was substituted. That match was Egypt’s final Group G fixture, and his withdrawal cast doubt on his readiness for the knockout tie.
Images from camp showed him smiling back on the training pitch in Spokane, in the north-west United States, where Egypt are preparing for Australia.
Egypt have reached the round of 32 for the first time, finishing second in Group G with five points, behind Belgium on goal difference.
The 34-year-old forward has been central to the campaign, contributing one goal and two assists.
