Brentford Women captain Mollie Holmes says “it’s crazy” reflecting on the side’s development as she spoke about Sunday's FA Cup second round clash with London Seaward.

Since signing with the club in 2015, Holmes has seen the group grow into the outfit on the pitch today, fighting for promotion each year and making history in the FA Cup.

Making this stage of the competition for the first time ever, Holmes said the Bees were looking forward to playing at home once again.

“It’s amazing, not only because it’s the first time for me but it’s making history for the club, which is amazing,” said Holmes.

“We’re really excited about the draw that we’ve got, we’re at home again so hoping to get a good crowd.

“It’s crazy, it just shows the development of all the girls and the players and the fact that we’ve got to this point and we’ve got such a strong belief that we can keep going and go even further.

“Many years ago, that wasn’t even in our mindset, but now it’s not only in our mindset but we really believe that we can do it.”

Having played teams in higher tiers throughout the pre-season, as well as Sport London E Benfica and Ascot United so far in the FA Cup, Holmes said those experiences would help Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

“It gives us some confidence. I think we know ability-wise that we can definitely compete and I think we always show up when it comes to bigger occasions,” said Holmes.

“Sometimes the better the team we play, the better we play because we see it as a little bit of a challenge, so it works for us.

“I tend to just focus on us, I’m not even fussed about who we’re playing to be honest. Focus on whoever shows up, assume they’re going to be the best team you’ve ever played and then anything down from that is a bonus.”

Last time out

Brentford kicked off their Capital Cup campaign last weekend, defeating league rivals Actonians Reserves 7-1 at Gunnersbury Park.
