Simon Adingra came on at half-time for an out-of-sorts Caio Henrique, scored and transformed Monaco, who beat Angers 2-0 on Saturday in Ligue 1's 24th round.
According to L'Équipe, teenager Prosper Peter stood out before the break, forcing a 32nd-minute save with a header and sliding Yassin Belkhdim through on 33, his shot drifting wide. He held the ball well but lost 16 possessions amid limited support.
Philipp Köhn made three saves, the most important in a 50th-minute one-on-one with Belkhdim. Without it Angers would have led 1-0 and Monaco might have been in trouble.
Folarin Balogun opened the scoring, though he looked spent and went off for Biereth on 73 minutes. There was fortune, with Ousmane Camara unfortunate, but Balogun climbed highest and his determination told.
Carlens Arcus was poorly placed on Jordan Teze's cross, unable to contest the aerial duel. For the second, he was on the ball's path yet moved aside rather than block.
Nineteen-year-old Oumar Pona had been steady before conceding twice in four minutes. He retreated a little on the first and seemed unsighted on the second, leaving him responsible without being solely at fault.
Caio Henrique epitomised Monaco's flat first half. Pocognoli chose to change a wide player at the break, and, rather than Teze, removed the Brazilian, a decision ultimately vindicated.
