AS Monaco are in the market for a centre-back before the closure of the transfer window. A centre-back has already been recruited this month. Wout Faes has joined on loan from Leicester City. His signing was one made necessary after Mohammed Salisu suffered an ACL injury.
However, Faes was struck down over the weekend. The Belgian came off in the first half of Saturday’s goalless draw against Le Havre AC. He has suffered an ankle injury that is expected to rule him out for several weeks. In that game, he was replaced by Eric Dier, whose minutes were being managed following his recovery from injury. However, he didn’t make it until the end of the match either. He came off with a hamstring injury. Like Faes, he will be out for several weeks.
The recruitment of a centre-back has therefore emerged as a key task for Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro. L’Équipe understands that the Principality club held talks to sign Manchester City’s Nathan Aké (30), however, the Dutchman is not expected to make the move to the Stade Louis II.
L’Équipe reports that talks to sign Aké were brief and quickly abandoned.
