According to L'Équipe, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation said it will pursue legal procedures with CAF and FIFA after a contentious Africa Cup of Nations final, which Senegal won 1-0 after extra time.
The federation said it wants both bodies to rule on what it describes as Senegal’s withdrawal from the pitch during the final. It also wants them to assess the events that followed the referee awarding a penalty, which it said specialists unanimously deemed correct.
The FRMF added that the episode significantly affected the match’s normal course and the players’ performance.
Earlier on Monday, FIFA president Gianni Infantino condemned the scenes in a statement, saying leaving the pitch in such a manner is unacceptable and that violence cannot be tolerated in football.
CAF regulations state that if a team refuses to play, or leaves the field before full time without the referee’s permission, it forfeits the match and is eliminated from the competition. The saga is only just beginning.
