With more points than anyone in Serie A over four years but just one title, have Inter Milan underachieved under Simone Inzaghi?
That is the question in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Simone Inzaghi joined Inter Milan from Lazio in the summer of 2021.
In the first season with Inzaghi on the bench, Inter lost out on the Serie A title to city rivals AC Milan by just two points.
Then, in Inzaghi’s second season in charge, the Nerazzurri finished miles behind champions Napoli. They were third in the table, behind Lazio.
Last season, however, Simone Inzaghi finally guided Inter to the Serie A title. They won it by a margin of nearly twenty points.
Therefore, it was little surprise that the Nerazzurri came into this season as favourites to defend their title.
However, Inter lost out on the final day for the second time in Inzaghi’s time at the helm. This time by an even narrower margin, just a single point behind Napoli.

There have certainly been ups and downs for Inter in Serie A since Inzaghi’s arrival on the bench.
The spring of 2023, in particular, saw a truly shocking run in which the Nerazzurri took just a single point from five matches, for example.
On the other hand, Inter were close to flawless in the league last season.
However, during a period where major rivals like Napoli, Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta have had major wobbles of their own, Inter have picked up points at the most consistent pace in the Italian top flight.
Juventus have taken just 280 points in the last four seasons under three different coaches.
Meanwhile, for AC Milan that number is 294.
Napoli have taken 304 points in Serie A since the start of the 2021-22 season.
But Inter are far and away clear at the top over that four-year period – they’ve amassed 331 points.
That means that the Nerazzurri have finished with over eighty points per season on average.
On paper, that should probably be enough for Inter to win at least a couple Serie A titles.
However, it could be said that too many of those points came during the 2023-24 season.
Therefore, in Inzaghi’s first and most recent seasons at the helm, Inter haven’t quite put it all together for a consistent run in the league the way that rivals Milan and Napoli respectively.
Accordingly, Napoli have actually won more titles than Inter since Simone Inzaghi took over. Under two different coaches, no less.
