Real Madrid’s market endeavours are far from over even though the club have made no less than four new signings in the market.

The club remain on the lookout for a Galactico signing but their efforts to bring in Michael Olise has been largely rebuffed by Bayern Munich.

This has led to Real Madrid focusing on other targets, with Rodri emerging as a strong option, even though the club have maintained that they do not wish to sign the Spanish international due to his age-profile.

Mourinho makes a request

However, according to MARCA, Mourinho is making an effort to try and convince Real Madrid to sign Rodri this summer.

The Portuguese tactician has apparently requested club president Florentino Perez to sign the Manchester City midfielder, who was crucial to Spain’s World Cup glory.

Alongside Fabian Ruiz, Rodri was the heart of Spain’s second line of press. His ability to win the ball in the middle of the park coupled with his ball circulation gave more freedom to more creative players such as Dani Olmo.

Rodri even ended up winning the Golden Ball trophy reserved for the best player in the tournament.

Real Madrid’s main argument towards not signing Rodri is that the player is already in the final stage of his career and might not be a long-term investment.

While that argument is valid, it must be noted that the Spaniard brings a lot of quality to the table. His ability to shepherd the midfield is something Real Madrid have lacked since Toni Kroos decided to retire.

Rodri can fill that hole effortlessly and is used to the Spanish game as well, making him a genuine investment for the next two years.

The Spanish international is unlikely to cost a fortune either, with his contract at Manchester City expiring at the end of next season. That means Real Madrid could sign him at a cut-price deal this summer, though Man City are actively looking to extend the player’s contract.
