José Mourinho left Lisbon for Madrid to take charge of Real Madrid, and said he wants to join Benfica supporters at the Marquês.
Before boarding, he addressed reporters at the airport. According to Glorioso 1904, his message to Benfica fans was to go to the Marquês and that he would go with them.
His previous Madrid tenure ran from 2010 to 2013, when he won La Liga in 2011/12, the Copa del Rey in 2010/11 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012/13.
In 2025/26 he oversaw 45 competitive matches for Benfica, recording 27 wins, 10 draws and eight defeats, a 67.4% return. The season ended without silverware and was marked by his repeated criticism of Portuguese refereeing.
Mourinho accepted Florentino Pérez’s invitation to take the job again. He will work with Bernardo Silva, one of the Spanish champions’ signings for the new season.
