Granit Xhaka is set to feature for Switzerland during the international break despite a recent ankle issue, with head coach Murat Yakin expressing no concern over his fitness. Blick reports that Yakin is in close contact with the Sunderland captain and will agree his minutes with the player.
Xhaka missed five consecutive matches with the injury, then returned to start Sunderland’s last two fixtures, including Sunday’s 2-1 win at Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Switzerland face Germany on Friday evening, then travel to Norway for a friendly on Tuesday.
If he features in both games, his cap tally would reach 145. The 33-year-old debuted in 2011 and has captained the national side for the past eight years, scoring 16 goals.
Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has underlined Xhaka’s impact on Wearside, praising his top-level quality, commitment and the standards he sets for a young squad.
