Nadiem Amiri has stopped short of guaranteeing he will stay at Mainz 05 beyond the summer window, saying he will not make a promise he might not keep amid links to RB Leipzig.

At Mainz’s training camp in Hopfgarten, Austria, he said: "Right now, Mainz 05 is the only thing on my mind and everything else is unimportant," he told Kicker.

"Things can always change. That’s why I didn’t commit to Mainz at the end of last season either. I don’t want to disappoint the fans. I’m not the type to say, 'I’m staying here' and then be gone three weeks later."

Recent reports had suggested he was keen on Leipzig and had a basic agreement, but the report said Leipzig had not made an offer. He played down the talk, saying: "They’re not even an issue. Someone had an idea, but neither Mainz, Leipzig, nor I have said anything about it. Why should we even address it now?"

His stance is neither a transfer request nor a firm commitment. He continues to identify with Mainz, yet is not ruling out an attractive sporting opportunity before the window closes.
