Lazio president Claudio Lotito has reportedly dropped his asking price for coveted Spanish defender Mario Gila.
The 25-year-old is apparently on his way out of the club, as his contract will expire next year, and the chances of signing a renewal are slim to none. However, his next destination remains uncertain. While Napoli have secured an agreement with the player’s entourage on personal terms, Atalanta have placed a higher bid. Moreover, Brighton are said to be monitoring the situation from afar.
Despite the centre-back’s short-term contract, Lotito initially sought a €30 million transfer fee, mainly because he has to share the spoils with Gila’s former club, Real Madrid, who have a 50% sell-on fee. But according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Lazio patron has agreed to reduce the price tag to €22 million as a fixed fee plus €3 million in bonuses.
The transfer market expert believes the chances of reaching an agreement with one of the player’s suitors have significantly increased. However, Napoli have been proposing a package that includes either Rafa Marin or Lorenzo Lucca, while Atalanta are offering the services of Daniel Maldini once again or Mitchel Bakker. On the contrary, Lazio prefer a cash-only operation.
The next few days should bear some interesting developments, but Pedulla reiterates that Atalanta’s interest in the Gila is genuine and serious, as Maurizio Sarri would like to reunite with his Lazio pupil, especially following Isak Hien’s injury.
