Napoli have made Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka their top winter transfer target in midfield, according to TUTTOmercatoWEB.

With Kevin De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour, and Frank Anguissa all sidelined by injuries, Napoli are a tad short of options in the centre of the pitch heading into the second half of the campaign.

Although Anguissa may return sooner than expected, the Partenopei still urgently need reinforcement to sustain their Scudetto challenge and are actively assessing the market.

Goretzka, 30, is the leading candidate. The 6’2″ box-to-box midfielder would add physicality alongside Stanislav Lobotka in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.

Goretzka’s Bayern deal runs until June 2026, but Bayern are reluctant to sell mid-season despite his limited starts this term.

Should Bayern remain unwilling to negotiate, Napoli are considering alternatives. Leading the backup list is Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, who has been previously linked with a move to Naples and is likely to leave Old Trafford.

Other options are West Ham’s Soungoutou Magassa and Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini. However, a move for the former seems unlikely given he only just moved to the London Stadium last summer.

Meanwhile, Napoli sit third in the Serie A table after 15 matches with 31 points, one behind AC Milan in second and two shy of leaders Inter Milan.

The Italian champions recently beat Bologna in the Super Cup final to add more silverware. Focus now shifts to Sunday’s league match against newly promoted Cremonese.
