Napoli decided to stand pat after Milan bested them for Mario Gila. However, Alessandro Buongiorno getting hurt recently might force them to change their mind and bring in a new center-back, TuttoSport relays.
The center-back will talk with a specialist because of a knee problem. If he needs surgery, he’ll miss a few months. Massimiliano Allegri and director Giovanni Manna are fans of Juventus’ Federico Gatti. He’s far from untouchable in Turin, but they’ll have to offer €20/25M.
However, Napoli could first try to acquire a lefty to better replace Buongiorno. They quickly tried to sign Benoit Badiashile on loan from Chelsea, but they were rebuffed. He has played sparingly over the last couple of seasons due to injuries and competition. He has totaled 71 appearances since joining from Monaco in 2022.
The Azzurri are also mulling Tiago Gabriel, who has a significant price tag and would be an investment for the future. An intermediary offered them Oumar Solet, who has been courted by Inter, Como, and Juventus this summer. No side really pushed for him yet. According to Alfredo Pedullà, Allegri will evaluate whether Mathias Olivera and Rafa Marin could hold up at the position before demanding a new addition.
If he’s not out for half a season, they could skate by with what they have, provided their coach trusts Sam Beukema and their youngsters enough. Still, the Dutchman and especially Amir Rrahmani haven’t been the picture of good health last season, so it’d be understandable if they decided to onboard somebody. Their financial firepower is a proper mystery, though, and the lack of departure is really hamstringing them.
