Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaïfi has paid tribute to Jean-Louis Gasset, who twice served as assistant in Paris, first under Luis Fernandez from 2001 to 2003, then under Laurent Blanc from 2013 to 2016.
The club said in a statement that al-Khelaïfi described Gasset as a very special figure for PSG and personally important to him, adding that thoughts were with his family, close friends and all who shared his passion for football.
After a recommendation from Louis Nicollin when Pierre Alonzo stepped back, Gasset joined Fernandez’s staff. They worked together at PSG and later at Espanyol, where his experience was valued.
Fernandez viewed Gasset’s best role as assistant, someone who helped coaches improve and supported them.
He was widely appreciated, remembered for a ready smile, his southern accent and remarkable human qualities.
