Dutch national team head coach Ronald Koeman has admitted that he would rather have seen Denzel Dumfries link up with Barcelona, than Real Madrid.

Defender Dumfries is of course expected to be unveiled as Real Madrid’s latest signing any day now.

After the Blancos brass thrashed out a contract agreement with the 30-year-old’s representatives, they will imminently activate Dumfries’ cut-price Inter Milan release clause.

The right-back is expected to act as competition to Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Santiago Bernabéu next season.

As alluded to above, though, had his international manager had his way, then Dumfries would instead have been taking his talents to Catalunya this summer.

Drawn on the rampaging full-back’s Real Madrid move during a press conference on Thursday, former Barcelona headmaster Ronald Koeman revealed his take that:

“I am very happy for him, but I would have preferred him at Barça.”

Dumfries was of course heavily linked with a Camp Nou switch last summer, only for the Blaugrana to bring in João Cancelo in January.
