Nayef Aguerd in pole to strengthen Real Sociedad defence | OneFootball

According to AS, Nayef Aguerd is in pole position to become Real Sociedad’s defensive addition for next season.

After an attempt to sign Czech defender Ladislav Krejci from West Ham fell down over finances with the British club, Real Sociedad have stepped up their push for the 30-year-old Morocco international, who is currently at Olympique de Marseille. The intention is for Pellegrino Matarazzo to have him quickly.

Aguerd spent 2024-25 in Donostia on loan from West Ham. He partnered Zubeldia, Aritz and at times Jon Martín, and made 35 official appearances.

The proposal being discussed is a loan from Marseille with a mandatory purchase at season’s end and a long-term contract for the player. Real Sociedad are said to have moved ahead of Saudi side Al-Sadd, and Aguerd has approved a return. Marseille signed him a year ago for €25 million.

Talks between the clubs are ongoing and the mood is positive. Aguerd had adductor surgery in March after months of pubalgia, rejoined Marseille’s pre-season on 29 July, and the injury kept him out of the 2026 World Cup with Morocco. In his farewell last term he said the club had left a deep mark, and he wished Real Sociedad success while pledging continued support.
