Nayef Aguerd has left Morocco's training camp prematurely. Suffering from a persistent groin injury, the Olympique de Marseille defender is set to return to southern France in the coming hours to continue his treatment, according to La Provence. The pain resurfaced before the international break, during the victory over Brest on November 8, but Walid Regragui still decided to call up his vice-captain. Ultimately, the Moroccan medical staff and OM’s doctors agreed not to take any risks and will work hand in hand to get him back to “100%,” as the Marseille source reports.

Entering this international window with caution, Aguerd did not play a single minute, remaining on the bench against Mozambique. Aware of the importance of his recovery, the defender will now continue his rehabilitation protocol at La Commanderie, where he will be monitored daily. The player himself remains optimistic and is hopeful for a swift return: the prospect of getting back on the pitch soon, and especially of taking part in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Morocco, is never far from his mind.
