Given what a good speaker Liam Rosenior is, we all had high expectations for his first press conference as Chelsea manager.

But still, the new boss managed to exceed them, speaking at some length about his plans for the club. His predecessor Enzo Maresca had some success, but despite that never really convinced the fans. They couldn’t connect with him, both through his personality and his football.

In the end, that probably cost him, as there was little leeway when results turned bad. The fact that the majority of the support are so unhappy with the owners makes his job even harder. Rosenior was asked about how he might do better than Maresca had in getting the supporters onside.

“At a club of this stature, the fans want success and they have every right to want success. The fans should have those demands and standards,” the new gaffer said.

“To win over the fans, I need to win games of football, build a team that represents them. I remember playing at Stamford Bridge where Jose Mourinho’s team were at their best, there was a physicality in the team and that’s what the fans demand. We are trying to build things in a different way. My job is to try and create a team where teams fear coming to Stamford Bridge.”

That’s what we all like to hear – but can he actually make it happen?

In other news…

Rosenior really set his stall out when it came to the goalkeepers, claiming that he now had two “world class” stoppers who could play with their feet.

While the new boss was taking his first Chelsea presser, there were rumours spreading about the club’s potential interest in a new central defender option.
