FC Bayern is said to have been considering a spectacular signing this summer. According to a media report from Spain, the Munich club was exploring the possibility of signing World Cup champion Rodri from Manchester City. However, a move to Munich apparently never seemed truly realistic.

The Spanish national team player has been one of the world’s best defensive midfielders for years and was once again one of the standout players at the 2026 World Cup. Interest from numerous top European clubs was correspondingly high.

As reported by the Spanish sports newspaper AS, FC Bayern was also among the clubs considering a move for the 30-year-old. According to the report, the Munich-based club signaled a general interest in signing the tactical midfielder.

However, the report also makes it clear that Bayern had little realistic chance of securing a deal. Rodri is said to have committed to a move to Real Madrid early on and consistently ruled out other options.

Consequently, neither FC Bayern nor Paris Saint-Germain nor FC Barcelona were able to convince the World Cup champion to take a different career path.

Real continues to work on the transfer

According to AS, talks between Manchester City and Real Madrid are ongoing. The biggest hurdle remains the transfer fee.

While the English club is reportedly asking for around 75 million euros for their star player, Real Madrid is hoping to reach an agreement in the range of about 60 million euros. Since Rodri’s contract runs only until the summer of 2027 and the Spaniard is reportedly seeking a move to Madrid, Real is counting on a reduction in the asking price.

Even FC Barcelona is said to have made a move following Frenkie de Jong’s injury. Internally, however, the Catalans reportedly see only a slim chance of success, as Rodri is said to favor a move exclusively to their archrival.

For Bayern Munich, a transfer would have made sense only if the player had been open to a move to Munich. Since this was apparently never the case, the Munich club’s interest ultimately came to nothing.
