So, you can’t underplay how big a coup this is for West Ham, and Bowen will undoubtedly be the biggest name in the Championship next season.

In terms of the contract, this won’t come as a massive surprise. There has to be give-and-take when it comes to this, and a release clause to ensure Bowen can leave without much hassle is fair enough, providing West Ham don’t go up.

In that scenario, the Londoners may need to cash in as well, as Bowen will still be the prized asset, and another year outside the Premier League will have further financial implications.
