New transfer strategy? Why Bayern like to strike in England

FC Bayern have made conspicuous strikes on the English transfer market in recent years. Now President Herbert Hainer has explained why the Munich club are increasingly signing players from the Premier League

A new development at the German record champions began with Harry Kane in the summer of 2023. Since then, Bayern have brought several players to Munich directly from England, including Joao Palhinha, Michael Olise and most recently Luis Díaz

And the list could soon continue to grow

Anthony Gordon, the next Premier League star, is currently the Bayern bosses‘ absolute dream player. The Newcastle United winger is said to be at the top of the shopping list for next summer

Hainer talks about Bayern’s „England strategy“

Recently, there has been repeated speculation that FC Bayern are deliberately focusing on the Premier League and are specifically looking for reinforcements there

Bayern President Herbert Hainer, however, contradicts this statement, at least in part. „It is neither our strategy nor pure coincidence,“ explained the 71-year-old in an interview with Sport BILD

For Hainer, the explanation is rather obvious: the Premier League now brings together many of the best players in the world. „Many of the best footballers in the world play in the Premier League because there is a lot of money involved and the league is attractive,“ said the Bayern president

This is precisely why, as a top European club, it is hard to avoid looking closely at the English market. „If we want to sign players who will make FC Bayern better, there are plenty of them in the Premier League,“ emphasized Hainer

What is particularly striking is the nature of the transfers. While Bayern used to rely more often on young development players, the Munich club has recently signed more established Premier League professionals with international experience

Kane immediately developed into an absolute leading player, Olise immediately became a difference-maker and Díaz is now also one of the most important attacking forces in Vincent Kompany’s team

Anthony Gordon could now be the next player to fulfill this profile

However, it is also clear that transfers from the Premier League are expensive, which is precisely why Bayern’s managers weigh up such deals particularly carefully. In the case of Gordon, for example, sums of up to €90 million are said to be on the table

Nevertheless, it is clear that Munich are prepared to dig deep into their pockets for the players they really want – if they are convinced that they can make the difference at the highest level.
