We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after Newcastle 1 Fulham 2.
This game reminded me of the defeats to Bournemouth and West Ham.
Another team who sat below us in the table came to our so-called fortress and did a number on us.
As did those other sides, Fulham deserved the three points.
Newcastle looked a bit jaded to me, which should not have been the case after a free week, and which is of great concern ahead of the Arsenal game. We were just about worth our one goal lead at half time, but thereafter, we were a poor second best
We lacked fluidity and we didn’t click at all.
When you concede two at home, the fingers will be pointed at our defence. They weren’t great but I thought our midfield looked anaemic for a lot of the game. Fulham were brushing past them at will at times and when they did have the ball, they weren’t quick enough to play in our attackers.
Another bad day at the office for Newcastle and another opportunity to demonstrate our alleged Champions League credentials squandered.
Martin Dubravka – 6
Not sure anyone would have done better on Fulham’s goals.
Apart from that, everything was punted straight down his throat
Tino Livramento – 5
Not his day but not the worst. Looked quite good in attack, slightly less so in defence.
Made an excellent forward run which could have resulted in a goal but for a smart stop by Leno. Like the whole team, faded in the second half.
Fabian Schar – 4
Played some good passes, made some good interceptions, and carried the ball out of defence a couple of times.
However, could have done better on both of Fulham’s goals. His positioning is usually much better than this.
Dan Burn – 5
It was a battle for BDB and he acquitted himself reasonably well. Played OK but no more.
Lewis Hall – 5
A mixed bag.
Some decent forward runs but his touch let him down a few times in defence. Didn’t look confident.
Sandro Tonali – 6.5
Our best midfielder, though that wasn’t saying much.
As ever, he was industrious, read the game well and looked comfortable.
Hit the bar with a howitzer of a shot from 20-odd yards. Then played one poor pass which ordinarily wouldn’t have mattered. This time it led to Fulham’s first goal.
Bruno Guimaraes – 5
A disappointing display by our captain’s high standards.
Held his own in the first half but was overrun by a far more sprightly Fulham midfield in the second. Subbed off.
Joelinton – 4
Didn’t have his usual impact and looked like a bit off the pace.
Picked up an injury and should probably have been subbed off before he was.
Jacob Murphy – 6.5
One of our better performers, although the bar wasn’t set that high.
Scored a nice goal, got a couple of decent balls into the box, and was a willing worker. However, it wasn’t enough.
Alexander Isak – 5
Hit the bar and demonstrated some slick footwork, but Fulham marshalled him well, it just didn’t work for him.
Anthony Gordon – 6.5
Superb turn and run to provide Murphy with his goal and had the Fulham defence worried more than once.
Another who faded a little in the second half.
Kieran Trippier – 5
Composed and industrious as ever, and looked like a leader, but had no impact.
Joe Willock – 3
Struggled to get into the game.
Missed what looked a sitter from my angle. Very disappointing.
William Osula – N/A (Not on long enough to rate)
Isak wasn’t getting anywhere, so I would have given Osula longer on the pitch. Worth a try, in my view.
Lewis Miley – N/A (Not on long enough to rate)
May need him on Wednesday if Joelinton’s injury is serious.
Lloyd Kelly – N/A (Not on long enough to rate)
