Eddie Howe has also revealed the latest on several Newcastle players, including Tino Livramento and Nick Woltemade
Gordon has been absent since being substituted in the first half of the Champions League win over Athletic Club earlier in the month, with a recurrence of the hip injury that has been plaguing him in recent weeks.
The forward subsequently missed Newcastle’s loss to Brentford as well as both of England’s games during the international break.
Speaking before the Magpies host Man City at the weekend, Eddie Howe has revealed Gordon has progressed well in training over the past fortnight and could be involved at St James’ Park.
He said: “Anthony [Gordon] is very close. He's worked well during the break and he's touch and go for the game. We'll make a very late decision."
In a further boost for Newcastle, Sandro Tonali, Nick Woltemade, Joelinton and Nick Pope - who limped off against Brentford - are all available for selection, though Will Osula is sidelined.
Howe added: “Nick [Pope] has trained, Sandro [Tonali] is fine. Nick [Woltemade] is fine, there are no problems there.
"Will Osula we haven't seen back in training yet but his injury hasn't been totally plain sailing. He may be going to see a specialist on Monday. We won't see him back for the next couple of games I don't think.
"Joelinton his fine. He took a nasty knock on his leg, but he is fine."

Elsewhere, Tino Livramento is closing in on a return to action having been sidelined since the 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the end of September.
"He is very close. He has trained this international break, which is great to see,” Howe confirmed. “He is such an important player for us and it's great to have him back.
"He has been out a while and his injury was serious enough to make sure we treat him well.
“He has done a lot of work and he has done a lot of work professionally in terms of how he has dealt with the injury and what he has done with the physios, so I would say he is in pretty good shape."
