Newcastle United have discussed a potential move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara (21) during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Athletic. The Senegalese international is a potential target for the Premier League club as they seek to bolster their options in the middle of the pitch in the winter window.

Midfield is the priority area that Eddie Howe is hoping to strengthen when the transfer window reopens. Whilst there have been no official talks with Les Monégasques, the Magpies have considered a move internally for the 21-year-old midfielder. Camara has impressed since he joined Monaco from Brest, making 36 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 2 goals and registering 8 assists.

The Senegal midfielder is not the only player Newcastle are considering for a potential midfield recruit. The Athletic understand that AZ’s Kees Smit, Valencia’s Javi Guerra, and Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss have all been considered.
