Newcastle United has confirmed that Yoane Wissa is on the verge of making his return. Head coach Eddie Howe revealed that the striker, who has been sidelined with a knee injury while on duty with DR Congo, is expected to play again after the international break, with the target being a return against Brighton on October 18.

The 29-year-old forward, signed this summer from Brentford, has yet to make his debut for the Magpies since his move. Wissa suffered a knee injury during an international camp with the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has already ruled him out of several Premier League fixtures for Newcastle. The Congolese attacker will remain out of action for a while longer, but now Magpies supporters finally know when to expect his return.

"He (Wissa) is here and receiving treatment, there's no need for surgery. We're looking toward the period after the international break, and we hope he'll be fit and available for that first match," said coach Eddie Howe on Tuesday, September 23, on the eve of Newcastle's League Cup third round tie against Bradford City at St James' Park.

Newcastle is hoping to have Wissa available for the trip to Brighton on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Amex, as part of the eighth round of the Premier League.

"I think he's doing well. I haven't spent a lot of time with him as we've been away preparing for matches. But every time I've seen him, he's been positive and really motivated to get started and show his worth. Of course, it's very frustrating for him to arrive and then get injured while on international duty. But he knows he's got a big role to play this season," Eddie Howe concluded about his new Congolese striker Yoane Wissa.
