Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Lukas Hornicek from SC Braga on a five-year contract after triggering his €30m release clause on Monday.
The 24-year-old Czech international, capped once, played at this summer’s World Cup. He becomes Newcastle’s second goalkeeping recruit after the record move for Ewen Jaouen earlier in the summer.
Hornicek spent seven years in Portugal with SC Braga, initially joining on loan from Pardubice in the 2019-2020 season while still a youth player. The move was later made permanent and he completed his development at Braga before turning professional.
He made his senior debut at the end of the 2021-2022 campaign and established himself as first choice midway through last season.
He comes off a standout year, with Braga finishing fourth in the league and reaching the Europa League semi-finals. He kept 24 clean sheets.
