Newcastle fans will be hoping to forget what has been a frustrating 2025/26 Premier League campaign, but Eddie Howe's Magpies look on course to start May with a bang as they lead Brighton 2-0 at St. James' Park.

As chances remain slim regarding qualification for Europe next season, Newcastle can still impact those that remain in the thick of the fight, with Brighton's hopes of securing a top-six finish on the line this afternoon.
And it was a former Seagulls defender, in Dan Burn, who landed a body blow on Fabian Hürzeler's outfit in the opening 45 minutes on Tyneside, heading home from a Bruno Guimarães corner in the 24th minute to make it 2-0 after a William Osula opener 12 minutes prior.
Hardly among the goals at any considerable clip, it was Burn's first Premier League strike in over a year, doing no favours for a club that helped propel him to earning Champions League and England appearances after his move north.
Will Burn also be on the plane stateside in a matter of weeks? That goal will surely help his cause to keep a place in the England camp.
