Newcastle United are still in the race for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, even though they are close to signing Nick Woltemade for around £65 million (Daily Mail).

The Magpies hope they can sign Wissa before the close of the summer transfer window on Monday.

Wissa emerged as a target for Newcastle after taking the Premier League by storm last season, bagging 19 goals in 35 outings for the Bees.

Lauded as a ‘fantastic signing’ by former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, his link-up play and eye for goal are phenomenal.

The 28-year-old would be a terrific addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, but Newcastle must move swiftly to get a deal over the line.

Wissa has gone on strike to force through a move to St James’ Park, but Brentford remain unmoved.

Newcastle should look to France for a solution to striker woes

With Wissa too hard to prise away and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen out of reach, Newcastle would be wise to turn their attention to Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha.

The 22-year-old has hit the ground running this season, netting three goals in four appearances.

He racked up 14 goals in 29 outings last term, an impressive return for a player still developing his game.

What makes Emegha an even more appealing option is his growing influence at Strasbourg.

He was recently handed the captain’s armband, underlining his leadership qualities despite his young age.

With raw power, strong hold-up play and an eye for goal, Emegha ticks many of the boxes Howe wants in a centre-forward.

If Newcastle truly want a long-term investment with massive upside, the Dutchman could be their best move yet.
