Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.
With bookies taking stock after these weekend results, including that NUFC seven goal ‘thriller’ against Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle United now with thirteen wins in their last sixteen games (all competitions).
Eight wins from eleven in the Premier League.
That win on Sunday coming in the twenty sixth PL round of matches.
The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.
Listed below are the general Premier League odds now (morning of 24 February 2025) available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the very opening round of PL games):
Win the Premier League:
1/12 (13/2) Liverpool
12/1 (9/5) Arsenal
500/1 (1,500/1) Forest
500/1 (11/8) Man City
1,000/1 (40/1) Newcastle United
1,000/1 (40/1) Chelsea
So Newcastle United now rated joint fifth most ‘likely’.
Reality of course is that having won 2-0 at Man City and gone 11 points clear, Liverpool look to have it in the bag. Arsenal losing at home to West Ham simply rubber stamping that.
This is how the Premier League table looks today (Monday 24 February 2025):
Premier League relegation:
1/500 (1/1) Southampton
1/16 (1/2) Leicester
1/8 (10/11) Ipswich
7/1 (7/2) Wolves
16/1 (12/1) Man City
66/1 (250/1) Man U
66/1 (5/2) Everton
66/1 (20/1) West Ham
250/1 (250/1) Tottenham
250/1 (10/1) Palace
500/1 (7/1) Brentford
500/1 (40/1) Brighton
500/1 (200/1) Villa
650/1 (40/1) Chelsea
1,000/1 (11/2) Fulham
1,000/1 (7/1) Bournemouth
1,000/1 (250/1) Newcastle United
No offers (3/1) Forest
No offers (2,000/1) Arsenal
No offers (2,000/1) Liverpool
Eddie Howe’s team now seen as joint fourth least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.
If you are wondering about the Man City 16/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. Still waiting for the outcome of that case.
Finish Premier League top four:
1/1,000 (1/2) Liverpool
1/33 (1/9) Arsenal
2/5 (1/7) Man City
11/10 (9/4) Chelsea
15/8 (9/4) Newcastle United
9/4 (100/1) Forest
13/2 (66/1) Bournemouth
18/1 (11/1) Brighton
22/1 (7/2) Villa
66/1 (66/1) Fulham
This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.
Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?
Well, the bookies now have NUFC fifth most likely, following that win over Forest.
Newcastle United level on points with Man City, Guardiola’s team in fourth now above NUFC, only on goal difference.
Of the top eight going into this past weekend, only Liverpool and Newcastle United won. The other six lost, four of them playing at home.
Chelsea are on a run of only two wins in their last ten PL games, picking up only nine points from a possible last 30.
With it all but guaranteed that fifth place will get a Champions League spot, as things stand, the league table AND the bookies point to Eddie Howe’s side returning to Champions League action next season.
