It is now reported that Newcastle United are looking to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.
An exclusive from The Mail says that United see the Villa captain as a very credible addition to their midfield options.
Recent days have seen Eddie How admit that Newcastle United are short of at least one midfielder.
Bruno, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali are the undisputed first choice midfield trio. However, Sean Longstaff has been sold and Joe Willock is currently out injured until at least after the September international break, meaning 19 year old Lewis Miley is currently the only available midfield cover.
The Mail say that their information is that Aston Villa could be prepared to sell John McGinn this month, although Villa have already turned down interest from Everton.
The reality is though that after heavy spending on transfer fees and wages in recent times, Aston Villa do need to sell some players.
Plus, The Mail says that John McGinn could be looking for a fresh challenge and fancy more Champions League football, having made nine Champions League starts and one sub appearance last season, scoring three CL goals and getting two assists.
The report adds that Newcastle still retain Villa’s Jacob Ramsey and Coventry’s Jack Rudoni amongst those players they are keeping an interest in as potential signings.
