Back on 15 April 2025 there was an official Newcastle United training ground update.
‘We’ve submitted plans to extend our current first team Training Centre as work to identify a new site for a future training facility continues.”
Four months on and still no update on the ‘…work to identify a new site for a future training facility.’
However, North Tyneside planning committee has unanimously agreed (see below) on the improvements and extended facilities at the current Newcastle United training ground.
Like the rest of you, what I am still desperate to hear is what the plan is going to be in terms of delivering a far bigger capacity first team stadium…
‘Plans to extend and renovate Newcastle United’s training ground have been approved.
The club’s aim for Darsley Park, in Benton, includes 1,350 sq m of new-build accommodation, focusing on office, meeting space and support facilities.
It will also see existing buildings rearranged to provide further treatment spaces and staff support areas, alongside improved front-of-house facilities and a bigger players’ lounge.
More than £10m has already been injected into the site, which has paid for a new canteen, auditorium, plunge pools and a games room.
Other proposals include the construction of a groundkeeper’s shed and parking bays in front of the extension, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The site is used currently by 140 personnel.
The club previously stated if the plans were approved then building work would be completed by next summer.
At a meeting of North Tyneside Council’s planning committee this week, some concerns were raised by neighbours about a lack of communication between the club and residents.
Newcastle United’s representative at the meeting stated contact details had now been swapped and a public meeting had been held to help reassure locals.
