Matheos Ferreira, who signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club last summer, doubled United's advantage four minutes after the restart before teenage midfielder Alex O'Donovan extended the hosts' tally further after the hour mark following a scramble inside the penalty area.

Everton pulled a goal back in the closing stages through Kean Wren's sweeping effort but it proved a mere consolation as Chris Moore's side moved into third place of the table, lying five points adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

The Toon teenagers are back in league action on Saturday, 8th November when facing an away trip to Burnley at the Clarets' Training Centre (kick-off 12:30pm GMT).
