Newcastle United aim to end a damaging run of four consecutive defeats when they host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s men have struggled for form since their heavy European exit in March. They have won just two of their seventeen Premier League matches against the Seagulls. However, both of those victories have come at home in recent seasons. The Magpies must improve their concentration, having conceded a league-high nineteen goals late in games.
Mathematical survival remains the priority for the hosts following their recent slump to fourteenth. St James’ Park has still delivered entertainment, with both teams scoring in eight straight home games. Newcastle have dropped twenty-five points from winning positions during the current campaign. That said, they remain eight points clear of the relegation zone with games in hand. The breakage of their eighteen-match scoring run last weekend adds pressure to the forward line.
Eddie Howe received a major boost as Bruno Guimaraes came through the Arsenal match unscathed. The Brazilian midfielder is expected to anchor the engine room alongside Sandro Tonali. Joelinton is also available for selection after completing a one-match suspension. Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon faces a late assessment following a small groin problem. In his absence, Harvey Barnes could retain his place on the left flank.
Aaron Ramsdale could return to the starting lineup after Nick Pope struggled last weekend. Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento remain out with foot and groin issues, respectively. Nick Woltemade is looking to end a sixteen-match goal drought for the Magpies. He started well but has managed just five shots during his recent dry spell. William Osula should continue to lead the attack if Gordon is not fully fit.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Ramsdale; Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Barnes, Osula, Gordon
The match at St James’ Park kicks off at 15:00 BST on Saturday, 2 May 2026.
UK viewers cannot watch the game live on TV due to the Saturday afternoon blackout. Live audio commentary is available on BBC Radio 5 Live.
