Crystal Palace have won only two of their last 15 visits to St James' Park, failing to score during any of their last four visits.
Can Newcastle United continue their Champions League push? On Sunday, the Magpies smashed Manchester United 4-1 on Tyneside, with Harvey Barnes bagging a brace while Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães were also on target. This made it four successive Premier League victories for Eddie Howe's team, who've won 12 of their last 16 overall.
This latest win moved the Magpies up to fourth, above both Manchester City and Chelsea, with this their all-important game in hand. On Saturday, Newcastle face a crucial clash against fellow top five hopefuls Aston Villa, so will the pull clear of the chasing pack by extending their winning streak?
Crystal Palace meantime are 12th, five points adrift the final potential European position, so a win here would really propel them back into contention. On Saturday, the Eagles looked set to claim a statement victory at Manchester City, 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, with Eberechi Eze and then Chris Richards the scorers. However, after Eze had a third disallowed for a very marginal offside, Palace collapsed, with Man City scoring twice in four minutes, before netting thrice more after the interval to secure, what turned out to be, a very comfortable victory.
Prior to this, Oliver Glasner's side had collected 13 points from a possible 15, with this only their fourth defeat in 20 since the November international break. Palace's biggest game of the season is coming up in just ten days, facing Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-finals, but they still have plenty to play for in the league, so can they claim a rare victory at St James' Park?
Eddie Howe will once again be absent from the touchline after contracting pneumonia, we wish him all the best, so his trusted left-tenant Jason Tindall will once again be in charge.
On the pitch, it'll be interesting to see if Anthony Gordon returns, hoping to start for the first time since being sent off on 2 March. However, in his absence, Harvey Barnes has been on fire, scoring three in his last two, so he does not deserve to lose his place.
That aside, an unchanged lineup is forecast, considering defenders Lewis Hall, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain sidelined. Joelinton will sit out Newcastle's next two matches, against Aston Villa and Ipswich, if cautioned.
Newcastle United predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace: (4-2-3-1): Pope; Trippier, Schär, Burn, Livramento; Tonali, Guimarães, Joelinton; Murphy, Barnes, Isak.
The biggest surprise from Sunday's 4-1 hammering of Man United was the fact that Alexander Isak did not get on the scoresheet, so can he add to his 24 goals this season, although he's yet to score in five previous meetings with Palace.
Marc Guéhi and Eddie Nketiah can both return after serving their one-match suspension at the weekend, with the captain returning to the heart of defence. This will allow Jefferson Lerma to return to midfield, after Daichi Kamada deputisied there on Saturday.
Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Newcastle United: (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Guéhi, Lacroix; Muñoz, Wharton, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze, Mateta.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has 16 goals. to his name this season, while he scored both when Newcastle visited Selhurst last season, so can he net on Tyneside for the very first time?
This mid-week match-up should be entertaining, but we are backing Newcastle United for victory, given how strong they tend to be at home: Newcastle United 2-1 Crystal Palace.
