According to Diario Do Peixe, Neymar of Santos was hailed by fans at the Maracanã despite not playing. Brazil beat Panama 6-2 in their final home friendly before flying to the United States on Monday.

Brazil's goals came from Vini Jr, Casemiro, Rayan, Lucas Paquetá, Igor Thiago and Danilo Santos.

Neymar stepped onto the pitch before kick-off, spent about two minutes on the turf and waved to the crowd. He then watched from the bench alongside head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The forward is recovering from a calf injury and is undergoing three daily treatment sessions to be available for Brazil's World Cup opener on the 13th against Morocco.

On Saturday Ancelotti said the CBF are not considering omitting Neymar, adding that he will wear Brazil's number 10 at the tournament.

The last Santos player to represent Brazil at a World Cup was Robinho in 2010. Santos had not had a player at any national team in the tournament since 2014, when left-back Eugenio Mena played for Chile in Brazil.
