Brazil will name their final World Cup squad on 18 May, and Neymar may have around 10 more outings for Santos to press his case. According to Diario Do Peixe, the CBF still has to confirm the next rounds.
Based on the federation’s calendar, his upcoming opponents are expected to include Internacional, Cruzeiro, Remo, Flamengo, Atlético-MG, Fluminense, Bahia, Palmeiras, Red Bull Bragantino and Coritiba.
He has featured in only four matches for Santos this year and was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s latest call-up for this month’s friendlies.
Neymar returned late after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on 22 December. In the Paulistão, he came on at half-time in a heavy win over Velo Clube at Vila Belmiro, then started the defeat to Novorizontino at the Jorjão, which ended their state semi-final run.
In the Brasileiro, he started and scored twice in the victory over Vasco at Vila Belmiro, then started against Corinthians, also at Vila.
Santos, while hopeful of seeing their No 10 at the World Cup, have a care plan in place to support a call-up. He continues to use the CT Rei Pelé facilities, including a hyperbaric chamber to aid post-match recovery.
