The footballing landscape in Brazil may be on the cusp of a massive shift, after iconic forward Neymar opened up on his future.
One of the faces of the sport, not just in Brazil, but across the globe, the 33-year-old is weeks away from seeing his contract with Santos expire.
However, the São Paulo-born star rolled the clock back in recent weeks to help Peixe escape relegation from the Brasileirão as well as qualify for the Copa Sudamericana.
But for Neymar, there is still a tinge of uncertainty surrounding his next steps.
"I confess that the last few weeks were very difficult," the global phenom said.
"After the match against Flamengo, I took a lot of criticism. I think people went a bit too far."
"I feel like when it’s about me, they always push things past the limit. And this time it was the first time I asked for help."
"My emotional state hit zero, I no longer had the strength to pull myself back up. My coach, my teammates, and my family were incredibly important in helping me recover."
"Now it is time to relax, the season is over," he continued.
"Now I want to take at least a week off. Travel, forget about football, and then I’ll think about it. But, obviously, my heart always belongs to Santos. I’ll always put Santos first. But let’s see what’s best for everyone."
