INEOS-owned Ligue 1 side OGC Nice has confirmed that it will launch legal proceedings against Olympique de Marseille Sporting Director Gregory Lorenzi. The former Stade Brestois executive was initially set to succeed Florian Maurice as head of Nice’s sporting policy, with Les Aiglons claiming Lorenzi signed a contract.

However, Lorenzi had a change of heart, resigned from his post and eventually joined Marseille as Medhi Benatia’s successor. In the aftermath of Nice’s Ligue 1 playoff win against Saint-Etienne, then-Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère said that there will be substantial “financial repercussions” regarding Lorenzi’s defection.

One month later, his successor, Maurice Cohen, confirmed that the club will take legal action against Lorenzi. “He had signed his contract and then changed his mind. The club wants to be respected. We don’t give any favors”, Cohen said for the club’s introductory press conference for the season ahead. According to Cohen, Nice and Lorenzi’s first hearing on the matter will take place in September.
